Ethernet Connectivity Configuration

The following instructions guide you through the steps needed to configure the Verifone VX820 card reader for Ethernet connectivity with your POS system.

Make sure to connect the devices running the POS application as well as the Verifone VX820 to the same network.
We strongly recommend that you reserve a Static IP address for each card reader that you connect to your network.
Use a unique IP address for each card reader connected to your network.
If you need help with configuring Ethernet connectivity, contact your network administrator.

Follow these steps to make sure that the Verifone VX820 is correctly configured.

Connect the VX820 to a power source.
Turn on card reader by holding down the
[GREEN]
key.
Enter the "Engineering Menu" by pressing the
[YELLOW]
and
[1]
keys at the same.
Enter "12345678" as the default password. We recommend changing the password. See FAQ for more information.
Scroll down and enter the “Comms Setup” menu.
Select “Comm Type”.
Select the “TCPIP/eth” option and confirm by pressing the
[GREEN]
key.
In the “Comms Setup” menu, select “TCP/IP config”.
Select “TCP Mode”.
Select the “TCP Server” option and confirm by pressing the
[GREEN]
key.

Go back to the “Engineering menu” by repeatedly pressing the
[RED]
key
Select “Connection Setup”
Select “Listen Port”
Enter (or verify)
16107
as the “Listen Port” and confirm by pressing the
[GREEN]
key.

On the card reader, enter the “Comms Setup” menu.
Select “TCP/IP config”.
Select "IP Mode".
Select "Static IP".
Enter the static IP reserved for the Verifone VX820. To enter the "." character, double-press the "1" key. Press the
[GREEN]
key when done.
Enter the Subnet Mask of your network setup. Press the
[GREEN]
key when done.
Enter the Gateway of your network setup. Press the
[GREEN]
key when done.
Enter
0.0.0.0
for the DNS Pri setting. Press the
[GREEN]
key when done.
Enter
0.0.0.0
for the DNS Sec setting. Press the
[GREEN]
key when done.

In your point-of-sale system settings, add the IP address of the Verifone VX820 to send the transactions to the reader.
